The word “Dosanko,” which is also in this blog’s title, originally referred to a breed of horse from Hokkaido. But nowadays, it’s mostly used to describe people or things from Hokkaido. It’s not a special dialect, so people outside of Hokkaido can understand it too. Hokkaido is the northernmost region and island of Japan. By the way, people born in Tokyo are called “Edokko.”
