Hokkaido【H】

Hokkaido is the northernmost area and island of Japan. Compared to places like Tokyo and Kyoto, summers here are cool, while winters are very cold with lots of snow. On the Sea of Japan side especially, heavy snowfall can sometimes cause problems for daily life and transportation. Japan usually has a rainy season called tsuyu in June and July, but Hokkaido doesn’t really experience it. While much of Japan is known for its hot and humid summers, Hokkaido is a much more comfortable place to be. Because Hokkaido is much colder than Honshu, its development started relatively recently, so a lot of its natural environment is still untouched. You can even find rare animals and plants that exist only in Hokkaido.

Hokkaido is also known for its agriculture, dairy farming, and fishing industries, making it’s one of Japan’s food-producing regions. Thanks to all the fresh ingredients, Hokkaido is famous for its delicious food, and many people from around Japan come just to enjoy the local cuisine.

Japan, being an island country, has developed a unique history and culture, which makes it a fascinating place for visitors from overseas. Among all the regions, Hokkaido stands out with its natural beauty, amazing food, and great sightseeing spots.

Note: Honshu is the largest island in the middle of Japan, where major cities like Tokyo, Osaka, and Kyoto are located.
