It’s a movie that was released in 2024.

The title is Samurai Time Slipper. Despite being a low-budget film, it gradually gained popularity. It was directed by Junichi Yasuda, who used almost all of his savings to make it. The story is set in the late Edo period, where a samurai is struck by lightning, and when he wakes up, he finds himself time-slipped onto the set of a samurai drama being filmed in Kyoto. He ends up living as a “kirareyaku,” an actor whose role is to be cut down in samurai dramas. Although there are almost no famous actors, each character is very charming. ( I especially liked the priest at the temple where he stayed ) Samurai dramas were once popular in movies and on TV, but now they have almost disappeared. For many people, samurai dramas have become something unfamiliar. The director poured his love for samurai dramas into this film.　

In Japan, it’s now available on Amazon Prime. I wonder if it’s available overseas too? The movie itself is a comedy, so I really enjoyed it.If you get the chance, definitely check it out!
